"Forgiveness means letting go of the past."
~ Gerald Jampolsky
One of the most important ways to truly come into our own power is to let go of the past - and this includes forgiving everyone in it. If someone wronged you, it's in the past and letting go of it is essential to moving forward, otherwise you continually carry that past energy forward with you causing a whole world of hurt for yourself! Forgiveness of that person who stole from you, hurt you, broke your heart, destroyed your life... and more-so than any of them - yourself. Without the ability to forgive yourself, forgiveness of anyone is practically impossible as you will use the same old excuses to not forgive them as you do not to forgive yourself.
The number of people I've listened to who have said, time and time again, "I forgive this person, and that person for the wrong they have done to me" is staggering. Only to hear them spew venom about that very same person shortly after - or in the same breath as the so-called 'forgiveness'. Feigning forgiveness does not count when it comes to the energetic power involved! You cannot fake it! There are no ways to 'fool' energy into being positive state from negative state. This is just a facade which will decay over time, maybe painfully.
Our heart is the key.
If your heart does not feel the forgiveness for someone on an energetic level, then that door will remain locked to you and that venom of accusations and finger-pointing will continue until you have run yourself insane, sick or worse. This negative energy becomes directed in hazardous ways, sometimes to those not even involved in the situation, or even back to yourself. No matter what is vocalized, it will simply be a lie to yourself and any you choose to tell. And what is a lie? More negative energy added on top of the venom, multiplying exponentially the damage caused in all directions.
Quite the mountain to be buried under - perhaps volcano is a better term? It eventually disconnects us from all other sources of positive energy flow as we push ourselves further away and down that lava flow. Makes for a very slow and difficult return!
If the heart does feel the forgiveness, then the voice will reflect exactly that sincerity. Others listening will feel the forgiveness more than hear it. The positive energy will flow from within and without. Forgiveness comes from the heart. Words are extremely powerful, but energy coming from the heart will over shadow any words that you could ever use. Considering the happiness and joy, or the sting and hurt that words may cause, it is quite the contrast to the power which comes from our heart - positive or negative.
Forgiveness may be one of the most challenging, gut-wrenching things we must do, but I have felt the results myself... from both sides.
Move through life with your eyes, mind and heart open, and many things will be made clear to you on your journey. Take care.
