Summer Solstice - A Time of Unity

Summer Solstice Sunset '11 - Port Dalhousie, Ontario
As I write this, there is a downpour occurring outside - rain, thunder, lightning - what timing!

I was in Port Dalhousie, Ontario with a friend, and her son, for the 12th annual Niagara Summer Solstice Event - "Drumming Down the Sun" just a few hours previous, watching the sun go down behind the low lying clouds (photo left).

To see so many people unite and set the atmosphere with the beat of their drums. To watch those not with an instrument dance to those drum beats with hypnotic moves in the sand. I'm no dancer, but even I began swaying to those beats without realizing it. The positive energy was extreme, but even more so where the dance was occurring. Some started dancing around 6:30pm, as we arrived and were still going right up until we left around 9:20pm.

Near the end, as the sun was disappearing below the horizon, the drumming and dancing got even more intense. At sundown, the festivities stopped and everyone clapped and cheered around the whole beach. Then they began to drum and dance right into the evening. Couldn't ask for a better group of people.

There is something to be said about the feeling in the air present at this event. So many coming together to enjoy the longest day of the year. It is the first event of its kind I have attended and definitely not the last. I could feel that togetherness of everyone there. It was a pleasure meeting people I had never met, as well as other friends - whom I was not expecting - and hanging out with my friend and her son who attended the event with me. Everyone was friendly and smiling. Other things added to the atmosphere also. A woman who was smudging those who requested it in passing, the smell of the incense people had burning in the sand, the sound of various instruments - some of which I'd never seen, all added to that ambiance and positive energy this evening.

What a beautiful way to end this day.

Poem - "The Mask You Wear"

 Creation Date:  November 21, 2010

What mask you may ask?
Why, the one in place upon your face.

Every part of your troubled past
You wear hard and fast
In that steadfast mask

And if this were not worse,
You may wear many like a curse.

One on top of the other
Until your identity they do smother.

You want a cure?
Make your identity pure!

When in the presence of another
Don't go undercover.

Just Be...

Hidden Beauty

You may feel that some of the choices you have made lead to dead ends. If given time, however, the results of these choices may blossom into the true beauty that lay hidden at their source and ultimately encompass you within. If you give up, you may never experience the energy of this beauty. As with a seed - it takes time and nurturing to see that beauty unfold.

There will always be something to gain from all your choices made. There is no such thing as a bad choice, simply a good, and better choice. These choices will be the results of lessons learned and may create new lessons. Each lesson being easier and easier as you learn the better choices.

A poem I wrote a while ago to reflect these lessons...  Poem ~ "Life Lessons"

Grudges: The Art of Wasting Energy

Grudges are one of the most energy-wasting feelings that someone can have against another. You may feel the grudge towards someone 24/7, while this other person may not even know you have a grudge towards them. Or they only know when, or if, they see you. Do you really believe they are thinking of your grudge towards them 24/7?

Lots of wasted energy - energy that could be used to raise your own energy and vibrations to the next level of happiness.

Who is really paying the price?
